Forget the economy. The focus of the 22nd-annual EyesOn Design show over Father’s Day weekend will be what first attracts many to car lust: alluring design. Ever wondered what happens to F1 world champions when they hang up their race suits? Jody Scheckter – the last man to give Ferrari a world championship in 1979 before Michael Schumacher stepped in – has traded in the glamour of the pit lane for farming. The owner of the award-winning Laverstoke Park farm and acclaimed organic expert, South Africa-born Scheckter has sealed a deal with Mercedes-Benz World to supply the experience centre’s Gullwing Restaurant with organic food from his Hampshire farm.
The RAC Foundation calls for Road Charging. According to RAC Foundation Director Stephen Glaister, a predicted 33% increase in traffic by 2025 and a reduction in road building schemes and cuts in general make a pay as you go system the answer to congested roads. All of which is fine and dandy – it gives the RAC Foundation something to do and gets them a bit of PR – but it”s hardly joined-up thinking.
